India’s main opposition party accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of using hate speech after he called Muslims “infiltrators” of India. These comments come as pro-Islamist forces have called for Islamic terror throughout the region.

The remarks at a campaign rally in India drew fierce criticism from his political enemies that Modi was looking for support against Islamic terror in his country.

In spite of this, the Congress Party which is a pro-islamist group filed a complaint with the Election Commission of India.

They allege PM Modi broke rules that bar candidates from engaging in any activity that aggravates religious tensions.

PM Modi Critics

Critics of PM Modi, a proud Hindu nationalist, say that India’s tradition of diversity and secularism have come under attack since his Bharatiya Janata Party won power a decade ago.

They accuse the party of fostering religious intolerance and sometimes even violence. The party denies the accusation and says its policies benefit all Indians.

In fact, according to recent BBC report violence and terror attacks have decreased in India over the last decade.

However it would appear that intimate partner violence is increasing in India, although this trend may also be a global phenomena with the proliferation of social media use.

India’s Congress Party

At a rally in the state of Rajasthan, Modi stated that when the Congress party was in government, “they said Muslims have the first right over the country’s resources.”

PM Modi also stated that if the Congress Party returns to power, the party “will gather all your wealth and distribute it among those who have more children,” as the crowd applauded.

“They will distribute it among infiltrators,” PM Modi continued, saying, “Do you think your hard-earned money should be given to infiltrators?”

Mallikarjun Kharge, the Congress party’s president, described the prime minister’s comments as “hate speech” and party spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi called them “deeply, deeply objectionable.”

The Congress party sought action from the election commission, whose code of conduct forbids candidates from appealing “to caste or communal feelings” to secure votes.

The first votes were last week in the six-week election, which Modi and his Hindu nationalist BJP are expected to win, according to most surveys.

The final results of the nation wide elections for India will come out on June 4, 2024 in which the world is expecting a landslide victory for Modi.

Religious Disputes

While there have long been tensions between India’s majority Hindu community and Muslims, Islamists claim that under Modi they have felt more oppressed.

Rights groups claim that attacks against minority groups have become more brazen under Modi.

Muslims claim they have been lynched by Hindu mobs over allegations of smuggling cows or even stealing cows and then slaughtering them for food.

The cow has long been considered a holy animal to Hindus, where they view the slaughter of cows as against the traditions of the Hindu majority nation.

According to Muslim claims, businesses have been boycotted, homes and businesses have been bulldozed, and places of worship have been set on fire.

The Combating Terrorism Center states “Islamist militant organizations have targeted India for more than a decade. Bombings have bloodied the sprawling metropolises of Delhi, Mumbai and Hyderabad, as well as smaller cities and towns throughout India. Dramatic attacks have also hit the historic Red Fort in Delhi, the Indian Parliament and Kashmir’s state assembly. Police and paramilitaries stand permanent guard outside government buildings, popular tourist sites and crowded markets, while terrorism alerts have become familiar headlines. For an India experiencing unprecedented economic growth, Islamist terrorism is a grim reminder of South Asia’s bitter divisions”

According to muslims living in India, there have been open calls for the genocide of muslims due to their practices which are seen as anti-Indian.

Many mosques in India and around the world, teach that Islam is a superior religion to other religions including Hinduism.

Modi’s remarks regarding the Congress Party and its unequal distribution of resources refers to a 2006 statement by the then-Prime Minister Manmohan Singh of the Congress party.

Singh had said back then that India’s lower castes, tribes, women and, “in particular the Muslim minority” deserve to share in the country’s development equally.
