Erdogan has his sights set on a new military intervention in Syria if the sovereign nation allows its Kurdish groups to hold local elections.
Ankara has made it very clear in public statements it won’t hesitate to act against Kurdish-led groups in northern Syria that Ankara accuses of links to “outlawed” Kurdish militants.
President Erdogan stated if the Kurds proceed with plans to hold local elections in the region, Turkey will respond with force.
A Kurdish-led autonomous administration that controls northern and eastern parts of Syria has announced plans to hold municipal elections on June 11 in spite of Turkey.
The vote to choose mayors will be held in the provinces of Hassakeh, Raqqa, Deir el-Zour and eastern part of Aleppo province.
Turkey, which has launched military operations in Syria in the past, in an attempt to stamp out Kurdish autonomy and plans for a Kurdish state.
Erdogan will do everything in his power to stop the move by Syrian Kurdish militants toward the creation of an independent Kurdish entity within its border.
Erdogan has even gone so far as to describe the planned polls as a threat to the territorial integrity of both Syria and Turkey.
“We are closely following the aggressive actions by the terrorist organization against the territorial integrity of our country and of Syria under the pretext of an election”
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan
Islamic Militant Groups
Turkey considers the Kurdish militia group, known as the People’s Protection Units, or YPG, as a terrorist group linked to an outlawed Kurdish group that has led an insurgency against Turkey since 1984.
The irony from the Turkish regime is that Egypt has outlawed the Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas both known and dangerous Islamic terror groups.
TURKEY COMPLICIT BY HELPING HAMAS TERRORISTS
However in Turkey both Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas are not banned or outlawed and even Hamas fighters have taken refuge inside Turkish hospitals as per Erdogan’s claims.
After Erdogan’s claims that Turkey was nursing thousands of Islamic militants the regime back-peddled on previous comments and stated they were common “Palestinians”.

Conflict with PKK
That conflict between Turkey and the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, or PKK, has killed tens of thousands of people over the last few decades.
The YPG, however, makes up the backbone of the Syrian Democratic Forces, or SDF.
The People’s Defense Units (YPG), also called People’s Protection Units, is a Kurdish militant group in Syria and the primary component of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
YPG provides updates about its military and social activities through press channel on telegram and social media accounts.
The YPG is a key U.S. ally in the fight against the Islamic State group which killed many ethnic Syrian Christians, Yazidis, and Assyrians amongst other indigenous minority groups .
American support for the Syrian Democratic Forces has infuriated Ankara and remains a major source of contention between the nations.
Turkey has performed a series of military operations in Syria in an attempt to drive Syrian Kurdish militia groups away from its borders for the last decade.
Turkish leaders frequently speak of plans to establish a 20 mile deep safe zone along its border in Syria and Iraq, where the PKK has a foothold, to protect its borders.
“We did what was needed in the past in the face of a fait accompli. We will not hesitate to act again if we encounter the same situation, where the territorial integrity of our country is concerned, we don’t listen to anyone and do not bow to any threat.”
– President Recep Tayyip Erdogan
